I am the second youngest of six children (big families are the best!) and a first generation American. My parents moved to the USA shortly after getting married in Colombia. Growing up in urban Hillside, NJ consisted of playing outside with the street kids everyday after school and ALL DAY EVERYDAY during the summer. In High school, I played Field Hockey by choice and was heavily encouraged by my father to join the Cross Country Team my senior year of High school. As he is an avid marathon runner himself and has run over 150+ Marathons in his lifetime. Fun fact; his fastest marathon time was 2:28 when he ran the Boston Marathon!! I eventually grew to enjoy it and loved running together after school even though he had already completed his morning run routine. We would run 5Ks & 10Ks in New York City on the weekends. I would call myself a “good runner” therefore I thought I was in tip top shape. I was proven wrong the summer of 2011 right before my freshman year of college. My brother, Leonardo, had just opened CFV. He encouraged me to come to an On-Ramp class. I reluctantly went and my first CF WOD absolutely DESTROYED me. I was sore for a week, maybe more. I couldn’t believe that a workout that had a MUCH shorter time domain than my usual runs could make me feel like I had never worked out before in my life.

In college, I did CF very sporadically and once I moved back to Jersey I worked out with my brother everyday. It was then when I fell in love with the definition of CrossFit which is “constantly varied functional movements, executed at a high intensity.” I cherished that time hanging/working out with him. (#wegonnadiebuddy). I took my CF Level 1 in Pittsburgh. Started coaching at CFV May of 2018 and can not imagine doing anything else. I have learned and continue to constantly learn so much from the CFV coaches. I want to be the best coach I can be for our members!

One of my favorite quotes is from Pope Benedict Emeritus “The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” CrossFit has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone. I am naturally an introvert, so to take control of a group of adults that are older than me and demand their respect and attention was very daunting at first. I have done things I had never thought were possible while coaching CF. CFV has strengthened me and shaped me both mentally and physically. Working out/coaching at CFV is one of the highlights of my day. Seeing members that have turned into family and pushing each other to be the BEST people we can be outside of the gym is something I am very grateful for and feel very blessed to be a part of. It is the best hour of my day. Veracity Athletics is the Happiest Gym in the World! 🙂 #boombaby
